1.3 Policies, Procedures, Programs & Funding
Candidates research, recommend, and implement policies, procedures, programs and funding strategies to support implementation of the shared vision represented in the school, district, state, and federal technology plans and guidelines. Funding strategies may include the development, submission, and evaluation of formal grant proposals. (PSC 1.3/ISTE 1c)
Artifacts: Emerging Technology
Reflection:
The Emerging Technology Project was created in ITEC 7445. I created this project about the emerging technology, Google Classroom. This artifact was created to give teachers and interested administrators a look into the many ways that technology can be used in the classroom to enhance student learning and encourage higher levels of critical thinking in students. The artifact is a PowerPoint which shows ways that Google Classroom can be integrated and promoted to improve academic achievement.
The Emerging Technology artifact shows mastery of standard 1.3 because in this artifact I had to research different digital tools and choose one to recommend. The digital tool I chose was Google Classroom. Once I had chosen which tool that I would recommend I then created a presentation on how I would implement this technology in the classroom. I had to include in my presentation how Google Classroom would support learning goals and programs. I had to discuss key benefits for using Google Classroom. I had to look at policies and procedures to see if Google Classroom fit into the Guidelines of the Technology Program in my district. I also had to include in my presentation how much the digital tool cost and possible funding strategies to obtain the digital tool. I also had to show how the digital tool supported the current shared vision in the school, district, state, and federal technology plans and guidelines which I included in my presentation.
During this experience I had to look at a lot of the new emerging tools that are out for teachers to use. I had to look at them and research and recommend the best one to make a presentation on that will fit the needs of my school. This was a challenge because of the vast choices that are present. One thing that I learned is that there are a lot of free technology that is emerging that teachers can adapt for classroom use. There are also some tools that you have to pay for but they are made for school. Some are better than others and the process of researching the tool is very important so that the right one is chosen. One thing that I would do to improve this artifact is show teachers how to use Google Classroom. I did a good job giving all the research, funding information, what it is, and how it matched our vision, but I never gave teachers tangible examples on how to use it. This is what I would do different, I would have given teachers example lessons. One thing I like to do is try something before implementation and example lessons would have been a great resource to support this emerging technology.
Researching and recommending different emerging technologies can impact school improvement because it can change the way teachers are teaching. If teachers are shown new technologies and how to implement them in the classroom they are more likely to use them. Especially if it is a free resource. If teachers are using these emerging technologies then school improvement is impacted and there will be an increase in student learning and engagement through the use of technology. The impact on school improvement can be assessed by school-wide data collected about increased student engagement through the use of technology.
